Sometimes you can wake up and believe that the day you have just started is a completely different day and you can never shake that feeling off even when you are certain of the right day. Well we all get that sometimes but wouldn't it be weird if u actually wake up one day and start doing things that you just can't remember doing at all.
Imagine talking on the phone and saying something then having absolutely no idea what you said a minute later, or talking on the phone to a friend who is reminding you of a conversation you had 2 days ago and you having no idea what she was talking about. Maybe you would say that was because your mind was somewhere else at that time but when you are commenting on something that you just saw on T.V and have no idea that u just made that comment then you are definitely in a twilight zone.
The human brain can really deceive you most of the time, have you ever been in a place where people start reminding you of something and you have no idea what they are talking about then after a while you start visualizing the whole thing. Well studies show that a mind can be influenced that way, it's like when you keep repeating a lie to yourself that at the end you yourself believe it and it becomes a part of your reality.
I have a friend of mine who tends to forget a lot and one day I decided to play that trick on her, I kept on reminding her of something that she was never really a part of she hesitated at first but at the end she came about. At the end of the conversation I told her that it wasn't true and that it was a trick, she got somewhat upset and told me not to do that again since she tends to forget a lot and that gets her really confused.
The point is I believe this is what really goes on almost everyday in our lives in various fields. If people can reach a point where they can easily doubt their own mind then they are easily manipulated. For some, living in the twilight zone is very common to them, you see we are all slaves (I know it is a strong word) to our perceptions, so if someone has control of your perception then they will have control over you.
Take the radical Islamic groups for example they give people a whole new way to see the world they feed their brains with a certain pattern to see the world so when they look around then they perceive the world not with their own brains anymore, but with the brains of those who manipulated them.
Actually, why go that far, if you see a couple where for example the guy is "whipped" and the girl almost has full control that is mainly because she has manipulated his perception, in other words she made him live in a twilight zone that she had created. In order to do that she would have to make him believe things even if they are not true, and if he doubts his mind easily then she is almost in control.
Why do we let ourselves get really caught up either in our own twilight zone or in that of others, could it be because we lost our sense of being and we lost our own connection with our mind; is it easier to let other people show us the "right" way of existing or maybe we just don't know the right state of existing.
The next time you find yourself in a situation where you feel that you don't know exactly where you are, what you are doing or even not sure of what you are doing or did, then maybe you are in a twilight zone and maybe it was your own doing so why not try and listen to your own mind for a change and filter out any other influence or outside perception, maybe then you will really find yourself instead of letting people show you how you should become.

the 10 minute ride home
It is amazing what the human mind can think of in only ten minutes, they can be used to change or keep your life the way it is. That thought came to her head as they were driving home, they had just returned from a deli, another normal and routine filled day for them.
They were a young couple, both in their twenties not more; they've known each other for three years now. "Amazing!" she thought, how some things can change without you even you noticing them change and when you do it is probably too late. She glances at him, still with the same look on his face, eyes fixed on the road and not saying a word and why would he; he doesn’t really say anything much anymore anyway.
Looking out of the car window she notices a man looking at her and his eyes speak of desire, he used to look at her like that, but that was a long time ago. She wonders does he still love her. He says that he does but he hardly shows it and why should he, he already has her, she is his and no one else's anymore… she is a done deal.
She glances at him again, not a word coming out of his mouth or even a glance; she believes that if she decides now to open the door and throw herself out of the car he might not even notice till they get home. But she soon calms herself down and says to herself that it's not always like that some days he notices her more; did she bore him was she becoming un attractive to him. Then she remembers the man in the street and thinks to herself "I was attractive one day and men lusted after me, I don't think that over night I have turned ugly". She looks at him again and realizes how much she loves him and realizes that he loves her as well but as usual the routine monster has invaded them and will not let them be.
They are not that different from many couples around them, in her mind however, she misses the spark that early relationship spark. She waits almost everyday for that spark to come back, but it seems to be lost. No, she thinks, it's not lost, life moves way too fast for it to catch up with us, in order for us to regain that spark we have to pause life for a while so we can realize that it is still here and breathe life into it again. Looking at the stars from the car window she remembers the long phone calls they used to have, the romantic messages, the dates and wonders are these days just a beautiful memory or can they be a part of their everyday life; well she has to think this one over, now is not the good time for that.
They reach home, park the car, go on the elevator and enter their apartment; they do that with only exchanging a few words. After they enter he looks at her lovingly and asks her the same question he asks her everyday "would you like something to drink?" she thinks to herself "this will be one of those days, the routine days, I can almost calculate what will happen in the next few hours before bedtime" she laughs in her mind and tells him what she wants to drink with a smile, a loving one, simply because she knows that they are stuck in this cycle together and she is still wishing for the day when they will see each other as lusting lovers again.

Men with virginity layers
This is not a reality but a mere thought that came to my head when I was contemplating about some of the many norms and traditions that basically rule our Egyptian society.
It seems to me that people put too much emphasis on being a "virgin", that it is no longer a personal issue or a religious one but rather it is something that girls would have to put in their C.V. when applying for a job! That might be extreme but why aren't men judged in that same way even though there is no religion on earth that says that it is ok for men not to be virgins and it is only a must for girls.
In other parts of the world this is no longer an issue not because pre-marital sex has been accepted and labeled as not a sin, but because it has been realized that in order for men not to be virgin and be accepted for it for that matter, they need women partners in order to make that happen, so in that sense both have been accepted in society.
However, in the Egyptian society, a miracle is expected somehow where men are supposed not to stay virgins and girls and women are expected to remain that way till their wedding day; which is a very good idea if the Egyptian society was purely and simply a gay one.
So that got me thinking about something, if it is a sin to have pre-marital sex in our society and religion, whether you are a man or a woman, then why does it become a scandal for women and almost pride for a man.
The answer that came to me was probably the most obvious one, because women have virginity layers and men don't. if you think about it a virginity layer is like a safety seal and it is rather funny that women can be treated the same way as a water bottle or a jar; in the sense of "if the seal is broken return to company -or- don't buy if safety seal is broken" works on bottles, jars as well as women.
Now what if it was the other way around, what if it was he men who had that guarantee of purity and not women? Would it be that different? Well I think so. I believe that the whole male dominance issue started not because men are smarter, more capable or more powerful than women, but because but simply because they felt that they had to protect that one thing that women have…their precious layer.
The idea of owning something that isn't yours and should only be taken from you not given away willingly is what makes men feel that they have power over women, like a father over protecting his daughter so as she doesn't loose what keeps her pure till she is handed over to the husband who in turn will probably treat her as property. If it was the other way around, then the protective instinct would have been stronger with females and would give them the right to dominate over men.
Then a crazy idea came to my head, if all girls were born without virginity layers in a sense that would make them more equal to men –physically at least, would that give them the right to the freedom that they really desire and not be looked down upon by men?
Maybe, but since this is very unlikely to happen perhaps the only true hope women have in the Egyptian society is for people to acknowledge the fact that a sin is a sin. Unless there is an imaginary breed of women who are not virgins, and are not supposed to be, so men can exercise their so called rights before marriage (not including prostitutes of course!).
The Egyptian society has to realize that before god we are equal and as much as people say that she gave away her "pride and honor" they have to realize that she didn't give it to thin air, she gave t to a man who took it gladly and with a smile.
Still, most Egyptian women are waiting for that day when the men are the ones who are born with virginity layers in today's confused and unfair society.
